CRAWFORD County, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV)— The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced on Monday that $248,750 in funding is to go to Crawford County, among others.
Grant funding has been given out to four areas in Illinois, totaling $983,750. This grant funding was made possible through the Illinois Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program (EECBG). The EECBG program supports counties and municipalities with the development of strategic energy/climate action plans, along with energy audits and publicly owned building upgrades.
“The steps being taken by grantees are meant to help communities across Illinois design, update, and finalize their comprehensive energy plans,” said Illinois EPA Acting Director James Jennings. “These plans will help maximize energy reduction and Return on Investment, enable better selection of advanced, location-specific technologies, and enhance resilience to future grid demands.”
In total, the Illinois EPA has awarded over $2,000,000 to 15 municipalities/counties across the state to advance local energy planning and improve building energy efficiency and resiliency, especially in areas in need of environmental justice. Those who received money have set up project teams and found and engaged with local stockholders to collect data to understand baseline information on the community’s power use.
