TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— The Vigo County Commissioners held their weekly meeting and approved many items on their agenda.
From things like a new employee handbook, roadwork, health fee collection ordinance from the Vigo County Health Department, and many more items.
One thing that was approved was the standards for public swimming pool inspections from the Vigo County Health Department. This will have the health department inspect pools and spas in public areas like hotels and other public places in the county. Vigo County Commissioner Mark Clinkenbeard mentioned this will be another way for the Vigo County public to stay safe and healthy.
“Our health department will be inspecting public pools, not private pools,” Clinkenbeard said. “Things like pools and spas that are in hotels, as well as any other facilities that are open to the public. It’s just another way to make sure that the public is safe.”
Something else the commissioners approved was parking spots to be added across the street from the Vigo County Corrections Department building in the lot where the old Thompson Honda dealership was previously located. These spots will be used for the employees at the corrections department building. Clinkenbeard added that this will benefit everyone who comes to the corrections department building.
“That’ll provide twenty parking spots, mostly for staff,” Clinkenbeard said. “That will free up more spots for the general public coming in. Anybody who’s been through that lot knows it’s just packed all the time, and now we’ve added more people coming in and out. So, it’s important that we have adequate space for employees as well as folks coming in.”
The county commissioners meet every Tuesday morning at 9:00 a.m. in the council chambers at the Vigo County Annex building. To keep up to date with the commissioners and any news or meetings they have, just visit their website or Facebook page.
