TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — One local Terre Haute church is making a big difference when it comes to getting students a head start on this upcoming school year.
Highland Church, located in Terre Haute, gave more than 200 backpacks away on Saturday, as part of their mission to help prepare children for back-to-school time and reduce the stress for parents, Highland Church held a fun-filled event for the eighth year.
The local church gave away backpacks, free food, and even offered free haircuts.
They say the whole goal of the event is to bring together the community to help support each other.
“It’s really important that we be able to reach out and meet this community need and I think it’s also important to let parents that we are here to support. So, kids are going back to school, it’s a busty time and it’s an exciting time, it also can be a time that can be hard on families,” said copastor of Highland Church, Summer Thomas.
