LEWIS TOWNSHIP, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— A Clay County Deputy turned a routine traffic stop into a major drug bust.
According to a news release, a Clay County deputy was on patrol in Lewis Township around 1:40 a.m. when he noticed a tan passenger vehicle traveling south on State Road 159. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle for speeding.
The release states that when the deputy made contact with the driver, he showed signs of possibly being impaired. The deputy then conducted an impaired driving investigation during which it was determined he was. The release states that the driver was offered a chemical test but refused. The driver was then placed under arrest for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
The release continues by saying that a wrecker was contacted to tow the vehicle from the scene. During the vehicle inventory, around 28 grams of methamphetamine, along with a scale and smoking devices, was located.
The driver, later identified as 57-year-old George Virostko of Jasonville, was taken to Clay County Justice Center. He is being charged with dealing methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of paraphernalia along with his previous charge.
