KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (We Are Knox County) – The heat and humidity have returned to southern Indiana once again.
Several locations in Vincennes are offering a place for people to cool off and rehydrate during this stretch of extreme temperatures.
WAKC News Now has confirmed the following places are offering some form of relief from the heat this week:
- The Knox County Public Library is open Monday through Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.
The library is located at 502 North 7th Street in Vincennes.
- The Salvation Army is open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
The Salvation Army is located at 2300 North Second Street in Vincennes.
- The Margaret Compton Recovery Hub has set out a cooler full of bottled water and ice. The cooler will be outside of the hub until 4 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
The hub is located at 509 North 7th Street in Vincennes, across the street from the Knox County Public Library
All locations are walk-in, meaning anyone in need of relief from the heat can simply show up during open hours.
Knox County remains under a heat advisory until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.
To stay safe in extreme heat, the National Weather Service recommends staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous activity during the hottest parts of the day, and wearing lightweight, light-colored clothing.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), symptoms of heat-related illness can include heavy sweating, dizziness, nausea, confusion, and fainting. Seek medical attention immediately if symptoms worsen.
