TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – City leaders and community members celebrated the completion of new housing in Terre Haute on Tuesday.
Officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for ten new rental homes in the Athletic Village of Gerstmeyer High. The homes are located at the corner of North 13th Street and 3rd Avenue. The development is the beginning of a project by S & M Capital Group at the former site of the Terre Haute Boys and Girls Club.
Each home is about 1,215 square feet and has three bedrooms and three bathrooms.
S & M Capital Group Partner Adam Myer said he went to the Boys and Girls Club while growing up in Terre Haute. He said the group has worked to incorporate the history of the property into this project.
“The historical landmark at the corner of 13th and Locust, we deeded that over to the Gerstmeyer community,” said Myer. “All the roads have been dedicated to some part of the community. Jimmy Smith Avenue, obviously, the former director of the Boys and Girls Club. Bobby Moore Way will be the second road when it goes in.”
The project is part of Thrive West Central’s Homes for the Future program. The first ten homes are just phase one of the project. It will eventually have 54 homes on the nine-acre property.
