LINTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— The Greene County Humane Society is partnering with the BISSELL Pet Foundation to take part in the Summer 2025 Empty the Shelters reduced-fee adoption event.
The Humane Society is currently operating at well over capacity and is hoping that this event will bring attention to their amazing adoptable pets. The event will apply to both the main shelter located at 1026 North 1375 West in Linton and also their partner cat adoption lounge in The Cat’s Closet in Bloomington, Indiana. Greene County Humane Society will be one of over 300 shelters across 40 states to partner with BISSELL for the event.
“Shelters across the country are once again at a breaking point. They are facing record intakes and limited space. Too often, loving, healthy pets are at risk, but our communities hold the key to their future,” said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. “Our Summer National Empty the Shelters is more than an adoption event— it’s a movement to support local shelters and save lives together. It’s an opportunity to change a pet’s life, and your own. Together, we can give every pet the future they deserve.”
The event started on July 5 and will continue to run until July 19. Dog and puppy adoptions will cost $70 and $20 for cats and kittens for approved adopters. The Greene County Humane Society is open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Fridays, the society stays open until 7 p.m. You can visit this link to view adoptable pets and learn more.
Greene County Humane Society President Kegan Inman said, “This event could not possibly come at a more needed time. We have been running over capacity for the past several months and desperately need adoptions. We are hoping this event can raise some attention for our animals and hopefully encourage more families to explore adoption. Our longer resident, a dog named Beast, has been in the shelter for over 13 months. He is an amazing dog who came to us as a feral puppy. He has really opened up, but still can be a shy boy, and is just patiently waiting
for the right adopter to come along who understands his needs and is willing to give him the patience and continued work that he requires!”
BISSELL Pet Foundation is a national nonprofit that works to end pet homelessness. Since the inception of their Empty the Shelters event in 2016, they have helped more than 324,000 pets find homes. This event is now the largest funded adoption event in the United States. The program partners with more than 815 animal welfare organizations across 49 states and Canada.
