TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— The Terre Haute Police Department has issued six felony warrants for battery resulting in moderate bodily injury against a group of juveniles.
THPD said in a Facebook Post that they had been made aware over several video circulating social media involving altercations among juveniles, most notably one at Fairbanks Park. The same group of juveniles appeared to be in each of the videos online. As a result Terre Haute Police Department’s Juvenile Detectives launched an investigation into the group.
Due to the investigation, six felony warrants for battery resulting in moderate injury were obtained and four have been served. The post states that the remaining two individuals have been identified as runaways and the THPD is making efforts to locate them.
The post continues stating that during the course of the investigation officers were receiving complaints of large groups congregating in the downtown parking garage and other lots during overnight hours.
The post said that THPD responded to these complaints by implementing increased overnight patrols in the downtown area. Due to these increased patrols, multiple encounters were made between police and several juveniles and young adults loitering after hours. Arrests were made for both curfew violations and underage consumption.
The Terre Haute Police Department stated in their post, “The Terre Haute Police Department is asking parents and guardians to please help us in ensuring the safety of our youth and our community. Know where your children are, who they are with, and help enforce curfews and appropriate behavior; especially during evening and overnight hours. Active supervision and open communication play a critical role in preventing unsafe or unlawful activity.”
