PARKE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Many people will enjoy the 4th of July holiday weekend on the water and Indiana Conservation Officers want people to have fun safely.
Conservation Officer Luke Tincher reminded people going out on the water to have a sober boat driver.
He said boat drivers should operate the boat safely and wisely. He added that if there are other boats around, operators should use caution and observe what the other boats are doing.
He also reminded people to have lifejackets on board.
“Life jackets need to be US Coast Guard approved. There needs to be a wearable life jacket similar to this one or a different model on board for every person that’s on the watercraft. Any vessel that’s 16 feet or greater in length needs to have a type 4 throwable device. That’s going to be a rescue device in the event that somebody goes overboard,” said Tincher.
He said conservation officers are also participating in Operation Dry Water. They’re patrolling waterways across the state, keeping people safe and watching for intoxicated boat drivers.
