BRAZIL, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — It is a heat wave in the Wabash Valley, but one local organization is looking to help people out.
In Brazil, Soul Light Ministries has opened their community center as a space for residents to come and cool off.
Amanda Tucker and her family work at both the ministry and the thrift store next to it.
She said they have heard a number of complaints from local residents about their air conditioning not working or not being able to keep up with the heat, so they have provided an alternative.
“Whether you’re homeless or just don’t have good air conditioning or access to a cooler environment”, Tucker said. “It’s very cold, we can make it absolutely freezing in here. Then we have our nice refrigerator full of bottled water, we have games for the kids, we have a tv if they want to watch tv.”
Tucker said they will continue posting the times they are open on social media. If you have any questions, they have their contact information on there as well.
