GREENE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — An exciting day Tuesday for Greene County General Hospital. It unveiled its new ICU.
This plan has been in the works since 2022. The goal is to provide lots of room for patients to recover. Before, the hospital’s ICU was in a tight space, on the first floor. It was near the surgery department that has also continued to grow.
Now, they’re both located on the third floor. This new ICU seeks to give patients more privacy and be more accessible to staff. The USDA paid for half of the cost to build this space. Staff at the hospital said they are very thankful.
“It’s gonna give us lots of opportunities for efficiencies, by sharing staff and sharing supplies, and just sharing space overall. It’s also just giving our patients and our staff a beautiful space to work. High technology. It’s the latest and greatest and we’re just really excited to have this,” said CEO of Greene County General Hospital, Brenda Reetz.
Director of Support Services at Greene County General Hospital, Kyle Cross, also described how this new ICU will be better prepared to care for patients if there were to be another pandemic or outbreak.
“Should there be another, you know, epidemic, or somebody who’s got a communicable disease, the actual air and the air handler in here, we can run off one hundred percent outside air. So, we are in no danger of putting any of our staff or patients in danger of anything. That was one of the main reasons, get it up here, kinda isolate it and it’s getting better care for our patients, but then also safer for our staff should we ever have to go through that again,” said Cross.
They said they hope to have patients move into the new ICU in the next couple of weeks.
