TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— October is fire prevention month and Tuesday the Terre Haute Fire Department taught homeschool students about fire safety.
A group visited Fire Station Five on Tuesday. They spoke to firefighters, looked at equipment and fire trucks and saw firefighters dressed in full gear. One of the goals of today’s visit was to give the students the tools and information they need to stay safe and calm in case of a fire.
“Showing them this can relieve a lot of fears that a lot of them may have,” said Parent Jessica Probst. “Some anxieties over bad things that could happen, or you know, God forbid, they’re ever in a bad situation and a firefighter show up, they can know not to be afraid of that person in that position.”
She said the kids enjoyed meeting the firefighters and asking them questions.
