VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — CommonSpirit Health and Home is acquiring and taking over Good Samaritan Hospice, the company announced in a press release.
As we have previously reported, Good Samaritan planned on closing its hospice program at the end of 2025.
However, leadership began looking at ways that would allow hospice services to continue. During that process, Good Samaritan said CommonSpirit Health was identified as the best organization to assume ownership of the services.
“We are deeply grateful to our hospice team for their compassionate service and commitment to our patients and families,” said Rob McLin, CEO of Good Samaritan. “After announcing the planned closure, our goal was to find a qualified organization that could continue this vital service for our community. CommonSpirit Health at Home’s acquisition of our hospice program ensures that care will continue seamlessly, delivered by the same trusted caregivers who have supported patients and families for years.”
The transition is anticipated to take effect in February of 2026. A news release did not reveal the financial terms of the transaction.
During the transition, Good Samaritan said there will be no interruption of care for patients already in hospice.
“Importantly, current Good Samaritan Hospice caregivers will remain with the hospice under the ownership of CommonSpirit Health at Home, ensuring patients continue to receive care from the same trusted and familiar team,” said Good Samaritan.
CommonSpirit Health at Home is a long-time collaborator with Good Samaritan, through its Good Samaritan Home Care Services.
The Home Care Services is a joint program that provides home health care in Vincennes, Indiana, and Lawrenceville, Illinois for more than 35 years.
