PARKE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— The Parke County Board of Commissioners has decided to reissue the countywide burn ban for Parke County that was lifted only one week ago.
The burn ban was put into place originally on September 16 due to drought conditions being a threat of fires, creating a natural disaster. Due to the burn ban being implemented, the following activities are prohibited in Parke County until the ban is lifted:
- Campfires and other recreational fires are prohibited unless it is contained in a fire ring. The ring must be 23 inches in diameter and at least 6 inches tall.
- Using any kind of conventional fuel for an open burn is prohibited. This includes using firewood or other combustible matter, excluding charcoal briquettes or propane.
- Burning of debris, such as timber and vegetation, is prohibited. This includes debris that results from building construction activities or windstorm damage.
- The burn ban also prohibits the use of “burn barrels” for any burning at residential structures.
- Charcoal used in permitted grills needs to be removed from the grill until the charcoal has been thoroughly extinguished.
The Board of Commissioners also encourages residents to limit personal use of fireworks during the ban.
Anyone who is in violation of the burn ban could be cited and fined up to $500 per violation.
