TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — If you are a pet owner, you probably worry about an accident happening at home that you can’t control.
That’s why a canine and feline CPR and first aid class was held Saturday at Happy Tails Dog Park in Terre Haute.
The class was hosted by Pet Emergency Education to benefit Happy Tails Animal Rescue.
People who attended the class gained lifesaving skills for dogs and cats such as CPR, choking, and bloating.
Nicole Moore is a certified CPR instructor with pet emergency CPR. She said these situations occur more often than you would think with pets and your quick decision making could be the difference in them making it.
“Indiana is fairly rural, so not everyone has a vet really close by”, Moore said. “I know one of the people here today that said they don’t even have an emergency facility in their county. I think it is very critical that you know the first steps to do because the first four minutes that your pet is in distress, you can actually do things that will make their outcome more positive. Not every pet is saved by CPR, but it does give them a better chance of being saved.”
