VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The Vincennes Animal Shelter is getting a boost thanks to a recent grant.
According to our news gathering partners “We are Knox County”, the shelter has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the national nonprofit Petco Love.
Shelter Director Leah Reagan said the money will go toward purchasing a bank of stainless-steel cages for the medical exam room.
The cages will give staff a safer and more sanitary space to house animals during the check-in process.
According to Reagan, the shelter currently uses a single wire crate.
“There is only room for one animal and it’s not easy to sanitize,” said Vincennes Animal Shelter Director Leah Reagan.
The shelter is gathering estimates and hopes to have the new cages installed within the next six weeks.
Reagan says the shelter is grateful for the grant.
“It allows us to help more animals,” said Reagan.
