TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— It was a great day to be outside no doubt, for a cookout. That’s exactly what students at Terre Haute South enjoyed today.
Terre Haute South welding students held their 35th annual cookout. They served up hamburgers and hot dogs for all three lunch periods. The event also featured a car show for students to enjoy. Welding technology teacher Gregg Dillion said the event has grown over the years to include other school groups and clubs. They organize various activities for the event.
“All the different groups take pride in all their different initiatives and clubs and this provides them that opportunity to showcase that,” said Dillion. “There’s a lot of problem solving, brainstorming, and how to make it happen, what you need to do, planning ahead, you know, solving this and that, so it’s more than just the fundraising.”
The event gives students an opportunity to fundraise for their club goals and for causes. For the welding program, Dillion said the funds help provide supplies for students’ personal projects.
They are also making a donation to Riley Children’s Hospital.
