MARSHALL, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — This week is Farm Safety Week, and with harvesting time already underway, an event held on Tuesday provided local farmers with a life-saving tool.
Country Financial Agency partnered with the Clark County Farm Bureau and the Clark County Ambulance Service for an effort called “Tourniquet in Every Tractor.”
County Financial purchased tourniquets for every farmer who attended the event. Farmers also received training on how to apply them.
“We really just want to make sure that people get home to their families. We’re starting harvest soon, and farm machinery accidents are the number one cause of death for farmers, and the number one cause of those deaths with farmers is bleeding out,” said Megan Schofield, Country Financial Agency in Marshall and Terre Haute Agency Owner. “So, if we can be supplying them with these tourniquets, showing them how to apply the tourniquets, it’s really going to be helping them help themselves before our first responders can arrive.”
Schofield said this is a new event, but adds that County Financial Agency would like to offer it to more areas in the future.
