CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Sydney Lowdermilk was a top contender, then winner, in the Certified Indiana Bred program.
Winners get to choose a pantry to donate to and she chose the Clay County Emergency Food Pantry. She said the award was unexpected and she is happy to give back to Clay County.
According to Chad Martin, this program seeks out talented and passionate individuals who either show pigs or raise them.
“We want to attract them to our industry and find a home of working for the pork industry in the state,” said Chad Martin, Director pf Strategic Outreach with Indiana Pork producers.
The pantry provides free food and clothing for Clay County and is one of the only pantries that is open five days a week. Food pantry CEO Mike Robinson said this will be huge for the community.
“So, when you shed a little light, make a little happiness in their life, you feel good inside. You feel good inside and what you’ve done is just amazing. A blessing for the clay county emergency food pantry, for our client that we take care of in clay county emergency food pantry. There’s no way I can say thank you enough,” said Robinson.
This meat is two thousand pounds of ground pork, which is enough to provide roughly over nine thousand meals. All parties hope this will leave a big impact on the Clay County community.
The meat is set to arrive next Friday. To make a donation to this pantry, call 812-446-2293, or visit the pantry at 506 E Pinckley St, Brazil, IN.
