INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Indiana Chamber of Commerce said it’s preparing to launch a new program that helps identify employers that are helping strengthen the Indiana workforce.
The new program, named the Workforce First Employer designation, was announced alongside Indiana Governor Mike Braun’s new “Power Up Indiana” initiative, which is designed to provide incentives for businesses to train and promote from within their own company.
“We applaud the Governor’s focus on upskilling that leads to advancement, retention, and a stronger economy in Indiana,” said Todd Hurst, Indiana Chamber of Commerce Senior Vice President of Strategic Partnership and Impact. ““We look forward to working with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development in communicating about the program and helping employers advance their talent development strategies.”
According to a press release, the Work First Employer designation will identify “employers who play a leading role in strengthening the workforce and contributing to the broader talent development ecosystem.”
The designation will highlight organizations whose human resources teams are actively engaging in professional development for their employees. This also includes external professional development through collaboration with education and workforce partners.
“Employers who earn the Workforce First Employer recognition will demonstrate a commitment to maintaining and developing robust workforce strategies, including talent attraction, upskilling, reskilling and retention efforts that align with regional and state economic priorities,” Hurst said. “Their practices support long-term employee growth and directly contribute to the competitiveness and prosperity of the state’s economy.”
The Indiana Chamber of Commerce said it’s prepared to launch the new Workforce First Employer designation next month during the chamber’s Indiana Workforce Summit on October 23-24.
