TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Explore Wabashiki will be happening this Saturday, September 20th, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
This is being hosted by Riverscape, and this is the sixth year for this event. this event is free for anyone to attend and there will be several booths with some of the area partners that people can visit during the event as they get ready to explore areas of the wabashiki wetlands. Riverscape president Bryan Horsman said an event like this is family friendly and has many things going on during it.
“Griffin bike park has a race at 930 through the wetlands,” Horsman said. “We have a warbler walk, a little bird watching guided walk at 10 o’clock. A guided bike ride at noon and then we also have a little kids turtle trot race at eleven o’clock.”
Horsman also mentioned that people will not have to travel as far to enjoy the family fun that Wabashiki has to offer.
“A lot of people will drive down to like Goose Pond, or further down south down to Bloomington, the national forest down in that area,” Horsman said. “So that’s something we can do right here in our backyard. The hiking, biking, running fishing, it’s a big DNR, Vigo County parks, collaborative land there’s almost 4000 acres out there, so this is really showcasing that this is right here in our backyard.”
Events will start to begin around 10:00 am, highlighted by a bike ride with Griffin Bike Park at 9:30 a.m. and go through 2:00 pm on Saturday. All the events will also start at the bicentennial park.
