VERMILLION CO., Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Residents in Vermillion County got the chance to get rid of some of their unwanted items and garbage at a county clean-up event that is happening on Friday, Sept. 12th, and Saturday, Sept. 13th.
Residents can come to either of the two county highway garages. One is located in Clinton, Ind and the other in Cayuga, Ind. Residents can drop off anything from trash to recyclable items, electronics and more. They will also take mattresses, boxsprings and certain tv’s for a small fee.
This is a bi-annual event as they do one in the spring as well. Eric Shideler is the director of the Solid Waste management in Vermillion County, and he says the county does this as a way to help the residents of vermillion county if they have trash and debris building up on their properties.
“We just want to be able to give folks the chance to clean up their property,” Shideler said. “So it doesn’t have to sit and wait for only one time a year and honestly, we have just as much participation in the fall as we do the spring. I know spring tends to be more that spring cleanup, kind of mentality, but we’re going to have a great turnout I feel this fall. We have in the past. The residents just really take advantage of the opportunity to clean up their properties.”
He also mentioned that something people who come to drop off their waste is to bag up some of the smaller items if possible.
“If you have any small loose debris, we ask you to bag that it’s just easier to handle,” Shideler said. “If you have larger things that are they’re easy to pick up, you don’t have to put those in bags, but any small loose debris, we do ask that it is bagged, it’s just easier for us to unload and get into the dumpsters.”
Anyone in Vermillion County still interested in disposing of their trash and debris can do so on Saturday Sept. 13 as the Solid Waste Management will be at the two county highway garages from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to collect as well.
