TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Events at the Terre Haute Convention Center and the cross-country course bring in millions of dollars to Terre Haute.
Now, a new hotel may help drive up tourism even more. The chamber of commerce hosted a community investment celebration at the Terre Haute Visitors Center. In the past, the convention center was unable to host an event due to a lack of hotel rooms for participants.
The new TownPlace Suites, by Marriott, will be an extended stay hotel with 96 rooms. Local leaders anticipate this will have a positive economic impact on local businesses. It should also allow more events to come to Terre Haute.
“If we don’t add any new hotels, new museums, new sports centers or complexes, we can’t grow our tourism footprint. So, this year we added no new assets. Last year, we added a new casino and the Larry Bird Museum. Next year, we’re having very large events and hopefully opening this hotel,” said Karen Dyer, executive director of the Terre Haute Convention and Visitors Bureau.
