TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A new children’s book is coming out later this week, written and illustrated by a local ISU alumnus.
‘Peckish’ is a children’s book featuring a pigeon as the main character, and we follow him and his journey across Paris.
The author said the idea came to her while traveling in Paris last year.
She wrote and drew all her illustrations from just her iPad and tablet pencil.
“I think my time ISU, especially with studying abroad. While I was studying abroad, I changed my major to English because I felt like I was in love. I took a lot of writing classes while over there, and I kind of fell in love with the idea of storytelling,” said Gabby Comelleri, the author of ‘Peckish’
She wrote and illustrated the entire book from start to finish and says that even though it took 9 months from the initial idea to getting to see it on bookshelves, she has always had high ambitions to make her dreams come true.
“I just was so blown away when I first announced it, I made the announcement, and like it was within like 10 minutes, I had over 30 pre-orders for the book, and I just sat there cause you like. I’ve said this a lot, I’ve worked with this book in so much isolation, by myself, and I didn’t tell anybody,” said Comelleri.
