FARMERSBURG, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— According to Northeast School Corporation Chief of Police Matt Price, a three-car collision took place near the intersection of U.S. 41 southbound and County Road 975 around 3 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon. Price stated that two individuals sustained minor injuries and one drove themselves to the hospital to be checked out. Price stated that during the investigation, one of the drivers who caused the initial impact said that he was looking at his phone.
“Here, this is a clear case of how being distracted for just a moment, even the individual said that he was just a second to look down at his phone, and that’s all it takes is just a second, for an accident to occur,” said Price.
Price said to make sure to think about safety when operating a vehicle and remember to use seatbelts and Bluetooth to mitigate crashes and their damage. Price also reminds the community that it is not only a safety hazard to be on your phone while driving, but it is also against Indiana law.
A crash near North Central Junior/High School has traffic backed up along the southbound lanes of U.S. 41.
According to our videographer on scene, a car accident in the area of the school has caused both southbound lanes of U.S. 41 to be shut down, and a member of the Northeast School Corporation Police is directing traffic. Members of the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office and Thunderbird Fire Department are also on scene.
WTWO has reached out to authorities and will update the story as more information becomes available.
