WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — One person is in critical condition, and two others were injured in a two-vehicle accident in West Terre Haute.
Authorities were dispatched just after 4 p.m. on Sunday in reference to a vehicle accident in the area of State Road 63 and Durkees Ferry Road. Upon arrival, a driver was entrapped in an SUV.
According to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, a preliminary investigation revealed the driver of the SUV failed to yield of right of way to a Jeep traveling southbound. The driver of the SUV was not wearing a seatbelt, resulting in the driver being thrown to the passenger seat and floorboard area.
The driver of the SUV was lifelined to an Indianapolis-area hospital in critical condition. The driver and passenger of the Jeep were taken by ambulance to Union Hospital in stable condition.
The Vigo County Fatal Accident Construction Team, New Goshen Fire Department, TransCare EMS, and Vigo County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the scene.
The accident remains under investigation at this time.
