TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— The United Way of the Wabash Valley is set to host their annual Power of the Purse event on Wednesday, September 10th. It will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the Hulman Center in Terre Haute. Tickets for this event are $50 each, or $390 for a table of eight people.
This is the 21st year for this event. There will be a luncheon, raffles, and exclusive auctions. Resource Development Director of the United Way of the Wabash Valley, Martha Thomson, mentioned that there will even be a special raffle for the event with a limited number of tickets for it.
“We are introducing something called the premier handbag raffle, and that will be a Louis Vuitton Neverfull Tote,” Thomson said. “The retail value is a little over $2,000. You can buy a ticket at the event only and their limited to three hundred.
Tickets for this raffle will cost $5,0 and the Louis Vuitton Neverfull Tote has a retail value of $2,130.
Executive Director of the United Way of the Wabash Valley, Dorthy Chambers, said this event will help benefit the United Way’s Success by 6 early childhood education and literacy programs.
“From birth to age five is the period of time where children learn really quickly,” Chambers said. “Their brains develop faster than any other time during their lives. So, if we can provide children with the fundamental skills they need to succeed in kindergarten and beyond, we know that they will be successful in life, and our community will benefit as well.”
