TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Holidays have a higher chance of accidents and trips to the hospital.
The local blood donation center, Versiti, is asking the community to schedule an appointment to donate in the lead-up to the holiday weekend. Their goal is to ensure uninterrupted patient care.
Other patients treated in trauma, cancer treatment, and emergency medicine still need blood donations throughout the holidays.
According to the center, they need to bring in new donors every day to ensure the blood is fresh and can provide immediate aid to patients. Donors receive a $25 e-gift card from today through September 7th.
“Let’s say you donate on a Saturday. It goes back to our labs. Within a matter of days, it’s in another human being’s body helping them heal for you know cancer, automobile accidents. How powerful is that? It’s pretty amazing,” said Shelly Shearer, a senior account representative at Versiti.
The center said that blood does not take a holiday, and if you are able to, visit your nearest center and donate. To find a center or drive, visit Versiti – Where to Donate Blood Near You. According to the center, you must have an appointment if you plan to donate this holiday weekend.
