BRIDGETON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— On Saturday, August 30th, and Sunday, August 31st, people will be able to take a step back in time and learn more about American history during the Bridgeton Civil War Days.
From 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and on Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., people will be able to see and talk to soldiers from the Civil War, as well as meet civilians and learn about what went on in their daily lives during the Civil War. People will also get to experience historically accurate grinding at the mill. There will be historical sewing, knitting, and other crafting things people can see and do, along with many other historically correct items to make and sell.
Event organizer Celia Case said an event like this is fun for people of all ages, and the kids will have several things they can enjoy during the Civil War Days.
“There will be some ladies there spinning, and they’ll let the kids try out the spinning wheels,” Case said. “They have a little loom they can try out and learn how handcrafting was done, sewing, and how they made their clothes, and how they processed the fiber to make their fabric. Then they will be able to talk to the soldiers, and they’ll see the live demonstrations at the mill.”
Case also mentioned that having an event like this can help people learn about what went wrong in the past, so it can hopefully not be recreated in the future.
“We learn about our own selves through learning about history,” Case said. “We can learn mistakes not to make again and how we should look forward to make our country a better place for the future.”
The historic battle reenactment will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. To learn more about this event and other events going on in Bridgeton, IN, this year, simply visit the city website.
