BRAZIL, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Sunday was an exciting day for Studio 1, when a team of the four dancers found out they had been chosen to compete in an awards show in Chicago.
Studio 1, located in Brazil competed earlier this year at the Nexstar National Talent Competition and won. The team was then nominated for the collective contemporary awards and now selected to showcase a dance in Chicago later this year.
Although the students had not quite yet found out the news, their dance instructor decided it was a good time to surprise them.
“I got emotional in there. I so enjoy watching them because it’s the passion that I’ve had since I was little. I’ve danced all my life and to get to share that with them and for the parents to trust me with their kids and all the hours we put in here, that’s what’s the best part,” said Studio 1 dance instructor Cindy Lemmon.
Dancing with a team requires lots of time and effort, especially leading up to the national championship.
“We took many hours in the studio. We were here every single week. It took a lot of time to get especially all four of us here at once. We worked together to work on things, if somebody couldn’t do something or just working together to try and get the team to be able to do everything,” said one of the four, Ashley Jones.
This is an opportunity of a lifetime for the group of dancers, but dancing is not just a passion for these girls, they say they are truly a family.
“I’m very excited. I’m very nervous, but to have an opportunity like this with the ones I love is so heartwarming,” said another of the four dancers, Camri Nuckols.
Using their same routine, they hope to sharpen and perfect their moves, so they are comfortable when they enter the stage on the weekend of November 14th. in Chicago.
