MARSHALL, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV)— Clark County Sheriffs and the Marshall Police Department located a semi-trailer attempting to carry illegal drugs into the county.
According to a Facebook post from the Marshall Police Department, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office received a tip from a federal agency regarding a semi-trailer carrying drugs along Interstate 70 on August 8. Marshall Police Officers and Clark County Sheriffs worked together to respond to the location and secure the trailer.
The post continues stating that an officer established probable cause and stopped the semi. The officer with K-9 in tow then conducted an open-air sniff of the tractor and trailer. After receiving a positive alert, a search was conducted on the vehicle, resulting in the seizure of a large amount of Fentanyl mixed with Xylazine (horse tranquilizer) found in a false wall of the trailer.
According to the post, 35 kilograms of the drugs were found and turned over to federal agents for prosecution. The post states that the street value of the seized narcotics is around $1,000,000.
