TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Vigo County School Corporation decided to align its safety and security policies to match the other institutions in the area.
This means bringing only a clear bag to games. There will be no backpacks, no outside food or drink, and no entry to games after the 3rd quarter. The goal is to increase safety for students and fans, so they are able to enjoy the event.
If someone has an emergency or has to work late, or a mother wants to feed their infant, those situations can grant reentry to the event.
“Hopefully, we have a larger crowd to start off with, and that environment is just amazing for our student athletes. The other thing that it does is it allows them to be focused where it belongs, which is on the field, either from the administration side point of safety and security, to the guests and the parents, and being able to watch the kids compete,” said Dr. Jennifer Korkes, Director of Secondary Education for VCSC.
Again, the school corporation hopes these changes are to increase safety and enjoyment of athletics as the season approaches.
