PALESTINE, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — Palestine Police Department are investigating a human skeleton found at Palestine Home and Hardware Company store.
In a press release on Sunday, Chief Don Cheadle states that Palestine Home and Hardware Company store is in the process of cleaning to determine what renovations will be required. While cleaning, workers discovered human bones in a closet upstairs.
Cheadle said the bones appeared to be an anatomical skeletal model used in the previous Dr. Taylor Physician’s Office, which has been closed for many years.
The bones were processed, photographed, and bagged as evidence and will be sent to an anthropologist to examine and determine what further investigation needs to occur.
Cheadle states this is an open and ongoing investigation, and you are encouraged to contact Crawford County Dispatch at their non-emergency number (618)546-1515 if you have any knowledge pertaining to this incident.
Cheadle said this incident is not something where the community is currently considered at risk.
