VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The woman who was shot and killed in a Vincennes liquor store parking lot Tuesday afternoon was in a relationship with the alleged shooter, according to the Vincennes Police Department.
The shooting happened around 12:56 p.m., Tuesday, in the parking lot of Cardinal Liquor Store. Police said Dylan A. Smith, 32, shot and killed Taylor Hendershot, 30, before leaving the scene in a black Cadillac.

Vincennes Police Department Chief Jon Hillenbrand said Hendershot and Smith were allegedly in a relationship at the time of the shooting. Chief Hillenbrand said they also had a child together. That child was not present during the shooting.
After shooting Hendershot, Smith allegedly drove to a house just a few blocks down from the liquor store. Officers said they were able to contact the owner of the home, who advised police that Smith was inside, armed with a knife. A several-hour standoff with police then occurred.
Police were ultimately able to take Smith into custody on a charge of murder.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Hendershot.
