TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Terre Haute Boys and Girls Club is continuing its support for youth by hosting an awards ceremony to reward students for their excellence.
The organization hosted its second annual Blue Carpet Awards ceremony. They are the only Boys and Girls Club in Indiana that hosts Blue Carpet Awards for their students.
This year, they averaged 108 children a day and had 247 students total. They went on 32 field trips this summer around the valley. Unit director Ashton Stevenson has worked for the Terre Haute Boys and Girls Club for 10 years and knows how much it means to the children, but also the parents.
“They are here for 10 hours out of the day, so for them to see that we are recognizing those things in their kids,” Stevenson said. “I know it means a lot to them. It’s important for us to recognize them, and I know it just means a lot to the parents.”
Many students won awards for their hard work and great attitudes this summer. Madilyn, a 4th grader at Linton Stockton Elementary School, won an award as well.
“My favorite part about the Boys and Girls Club,” Madilyn said. “Is probably that I get to see all my friends and make new friends as the years go on.”
Some of the awards included: most helpful, best example-setter, great attitude, and many more.
You can sign your child up for the Terre Haute Boys and Girls Club, ages 5-18, on their website here.
