TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Summer is winding down in the Wabash Valley, but in Knox County, that means watermelons.
The annual Watermelon Festival will take place this weekend.
Starting Friday at 5 p.m. residents can go to Patrick Henry Square in downtown Vincennes and enjoy live music, vendors, and, of course, watermelon eating contests.
On Saturday, festivities will begin early with a 5k color run.
There will also be the Watermelon Pageant.
Knox County Chamber of Commerce President Jamie Neal said the event has been going on for decades.
“We’ve been doing this festival for over 25 years”, Neal said. “It’s Knox County, we are known for our melons, we are known for agriculture in our community, so what better way to honor that than to have a festival around it.”
