TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — An effort to engage the public with local police continues in the valley.
This evening custard and conversation were served at Ritters Frozen Custard for the public. This social event was a way for the community to talk with the Terre Haute Police Department about the community.
It also provides a chance to ask questions. Events like these are hosted all around the valley throughout the year. The officers say public engagement is important and it helps bring people together.
“We can’t do our jobs a lot of times without the public’s help and that’s not to say we rely solely on that, but when you have a community that works together, that takes care of each other, that looks out for one another, it makes it a lot easier for us and so when we can get people out here let them know who we are and let them know we are here for them and we want to know what they have going in their neighborhoods I think that’s why we are doing it,” said Josh Loudermilk, Terre Haute Police Detective.
Coming up on August 6th they will be having a “First Responders Rally” at Fairbanks Park. It’s where kids can get school supplies and meet first responders.
