TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Last week we told you about how Pathways in Terre Haute is opening its doors to help residents get out of the heat.
The organization is doing the same thing again this week.
As the heat wave continues in the Wabash Valley, Pathways opened its door as a cooling center.
The center was open from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, welcoming people and their pets.
Program Manager Sommer Hutchinson encourages residents to drop in during the peak hours of heat and they are offering some additional amenities as well.
“Having a safe and cool place from the weather is very important”, Hutchinson said. “People can come in, cool off, shower, do laundry, just get their basic needs met. We just want to have a safe space to be during those hot temps.”
Wednesday, July 30th, Pathways will be holding their Summer Bash. This is an event with the Homeless Council of the Wabash Valley. It’s for Vigo County’s summer count of people experiencing homelessness.
“We are inviting people that are experiencing homelessness to come in”, Hutchinson said. “We will be serving food, there will be yard games, and then we have a bunch of agencies and local resources coming in to set up inside the building. They will be sharing those resources with people who need it most.”
The Pathways Summer Bash will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 30th at their building, which is located at 504 S 15th Street.
