TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— UPDATE: The Terre Haute Police Department has released more information regarding the wreck on 1st Street and Locust Streets. The post states that the passenger did die from their injuries after being transported to a local hospital.
The driver, identified as 63-year-old Jack D. Hutchinson of Terre Haute was taken to a local hospital and later transferred to an Indianapolis area facility for further treatment. The preliminary investigation cited Hutchinson as a habitual traffic violator.
The post states that Hutchinson will face multiple felony charges upon his release from the hospital. The police department and prosecutor’s office are still working to determine the exact charges being faced.
UPDATE: WTWO spoke with Public Information Officer Nick Arnold with the Terre Haute Fire Department to get more information on the crash. Arnold said that when they arrived on scene, the male driver was seen outside the vehicle. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital, and his condition is unknown. Arnold said that there was a female passenger who took the fire department a few minutes to extricate from the vehicle. The woman was also taken by ambulance to the hospital, and her condition is also unknown.
Arnold asks that the public avoid 1st Street from 8th Avenue to Locust Street while Terre Haute Police Department Reconstructionists work. Arnold also stated that the road would be closed for some time.
Duke Energy was also on scene due to the damage done to the telephone pole. Arnold stated that the pole was damaged enough that it would need to be replaced.
The Terre Haute Police Department and Terre Haute Fire Department are currently at the scene of a wreck involving two individuals entrapped at the intersection of 1st Street and Locust Street.
According to a Facebook post by the Terre Haute Police Department, the single vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole near the intersection. Terre Haute Fire Department was called in to help extricate the two individuals trapped inside the vehicle.
The post states that medical treatment for the two passengers is the top priority, and an investigation will follow. The police department requests that the public avoid the area and allow emergency crews to work safely.
