TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Camp Invention finished up their 2025 camp at Ivy Tech on Friday, July 18th, after teaching kids about innovative and creative ways to solve problems.
The weeklong camp took place from July 14th through July 18th at Ivy Tech in Terre Haute. 77 kids signed up for the camp this year. The camp focused on STEM, and one thing that is different about this camp is that they want to encourage their campers to invent and be innovative with their projects. The National Inventors Hall of Fame provided the curriculum, and they partnered with the US Patent Office to help teach the kids about images, trademarks, and more.
Campers entering grades kindergarten through 6th grade could sign up for the camp. Kids entering 7th through 9th grade could be interns at the camp and learn from the counselors while doing their projects for the camp. Anyone in 10th grade or older could be a counselor at the camp.
Camp Director Lindsey Goldman said students and parents alike get excited for this camp every year.
“A lot of parents just get really excited because they see it as a big confidence boost,” Goldman said. “For some of these kiddos, school may not be their favorite thing, and they get excited to come here every year. I have a kiddo, he’s a counselor this year, and his family’s fortunate to do all kinds of things, and this is his favorite week, and he’s a counselor. It’s his favorite week to come to camp every summer. He looks forward to it.”
Deb Herndon has been involved in the camp for several years now, including being a teacher at the camp, and she explained what makes this camp different from other ones in the area.
“We are a science camp that specializes in inventing things,” Herndon said. “We are hands-on, putting it together, taking it apart to see how it works, which kids love to do anyway. But this is in a controlled environment where it’s safe, and they can learn from it and have fun too.”
The camp has already been approved to be held from July 13th through July 17th in 2026. To learn about how to sign up, just visit the National Inventors Hall of Fame website.
