VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Vincennes University is partnering with Walmart to provide hands-on technician training to Walmart employees.
This is part of Walmart’s Associate to Technician (A2T) program that is now being implemented in Vincennes after a successful first run in Dallas-Fort Worth. The A2T program allows Walmart employees the chance to develop technical skills through a training model that combines 70% hands-on experience and 30% classroom learning.
The training covers electrical and mechanical fundamentals, pneumatics, refrigeration, and troubleshooting. Employees do not need a degree to participate in the program, only approval from a manager.
VU Vice President for Workforce Development and Community Services David Tucker said, “This collaboration perfectly reflects Vincennes University’s commitment to workforce-driven education that meets the needs of today’s employers. We are proud to help Walmart associates build skills that lead to meaningful, well-paying careers.”
All 108 graduates of the pilot program secured technician positions with an average earning potential of $32 per hour. The program has set a goal to train 4,000 employees throughout the U.S. by 2030 after expanding the program to Vincennes and Jacksonville, Florida.
“This is more than training, it’s a life-changing pathway to success,” Tucker said. “We are honored to support associates on their journey to grow and thrive.”
