SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Construction has begun for an extension of the Sullivan Greenway Trail System (Sully Trail) for a mile-long addition to be added on the east side of Sullivan.
This extension will allow people on the east side of town to walk, bike, or run to downtown Sullivan safely. The extension was brought on thanks to the help of INDOT, offering a matching grant through their LPA program. The city of Sullivan will also be able to add some more extensions to the trail later on with the help of this grant.
Mayor of Sullivan JD Wilson said an extension to the trail will not only benefit the mental and physical health of the people of Sullivan, but it will also improve the city as a whole.
“Get them out walking, running, biking, walk your animal, walk your dog, you know, on the trail system,” Wilson said. “It’s a beautification to the aesthetics, and the streetscape will all be matching. We’ll have benches along there. We’ll have flower baskets hanging up. It’ll just be a beautiful piece added to the city of Sullivan.”
