CENTER POINT, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Exotic Feline Rescue Center, in Center Point Indiana, has recently added to their group of animals.
Fundraising Coordinator, Tiffani Shearer, said the center was founded in the 1990s and is currently home to more than 100 cats and foxes, as well as some new additions.
“We have a ton of foxes, we were recently a part of a fur farm rescue out of Ohio”, Shearer said. “We took in over 60 animals from that, most of them being foxes. We also have other k-9s like coyotes and wolves then we also have a few black bears.”
The center aims to help animals get out of destructive situations, as well as teach residents about wildlife.
“We take them in from neglected, abused, abandoned situations”, Shearer said. “Basically, if they need a home, we are here to provide it. We give them as wild of a life as we can in the middle of Indiana, while educating the public on why there are tigers, lions, and bears here in Indiana.”
Coming up this weekend, the Rescue Center is holding a summer safari event that will include tours to view the animals and enjoy activities from local businesses.
“It is basically a big open house”, Shearer said. “We do them every season and this one will have a ton of vendors, local businesses with things to sell. We also have food trucks, face painting, balloon animals, and maybe even a bounce house.”
The Exotic Feline Rescue Center’s Summer Safari will take place this Saturday, July 19th. They will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
