TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Thursday night, he Terre Haute council tabled an amendment to the property maintenance code.
The goal of this code is to protect residents from unsafe building conditions and hold property owners accountable. The purpose of the code is to stop the decline of a building before it is condemned while also putting citizen safety first.
The president of the city council explains why the amendment was tabled.
“The property maintenance code was tabled because the council had some concerns primarily about adding language in the event of natural disasters,” President of the Board Todd Nation.
The council will take a look at the amendment again on August 7.
