CLINTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The late mayor of Clinton, Mayor Jack Gilfoy, was honored Thursday afternoon.
The West Central Indiana Partnership presented his wife and family with the Distinguished Hoosier Award from Indiana Governor Mike Braun.
The award recognizes Hoosiers for their significant contributions to their communities.
Many people from the community, including from Clinton, Vermillion County and West Central Indiana, were in attendance for the presentation on Thursday.
They remembered his impact on the city and the region.
“Mayor Gilfoy was a member of our advisory board, so it was an honor today for us to be able to award this recognition on behalf of the State of Indiana, and have representation from all around Vermillion County and West Central Indiana,” said Josh Alsip, Vice President of Regional Engagement for the West Central Indiana Partnership.
Mayor Gilfoy was also remembered for his loyalty to the community and his city service.
“Everything was all about Clinton. What he could do to improve it at a minimal cost of taxpayers and he just wanted to make life better for everybody,” said recently-appointed Mayor of Clinton John Moore.
Mayor Gilfoy passed away back in May of this year at the age of 75. He was elected mayor in November 2011.
