TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Thursday is a big day for foodbanks around the country as it is a national day of giving called “Chip In and Chip Away” at hunger.
Catholic Charities Foodbank in Terre Haute is one of the many organizations participating on Thursday.
The idea focuses on the community, asking donors to give any amount they can to “Chip In and Chip Away” at the problem of food insecurity.
Jessica Murphy is the Development Manager for Catholic Charities Foodbank in Terre Haute. She said, not only is this a developing issue in many places across the United States, but the numbers here in the Wabash Valley have increased significantly.
“Right now, especially in our area, the percentage of food insecure individuals has skyrocketed”, Murphy said. “As many as around 43,000 of our neighbors are struggling with food insecurity, that number is even starker for children. If we can all join together and do a little bit, chip away at this problem, that’s what we are acknowledging today.”
If you would like to donate financially or volunteer your time to the “Chip In and Chip Away” at hunger campaign, you can visit the Catholic Charities Foodbank in Terre Haute Facebook page or their website here.
