BLOOMFIELD, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Joshua Penick, the man accused of murdering a woman and their 14-year-old son, had a pretrial conference Tuesday morning.
According to the Greene County Circuit Court, Penick plans to change his plea to guilty. The change of plea is in response to a plea agreement that hasn’t been filed at this time. The change of plea hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. on July 23. After that, Penick is scheduled for a sentencing hearing at 10 a.m. on October 1.
Penick is charged with two counts of murder, four counts of obstruction of justice, one count of battery against a public safety official, one count of false informing, and one count of resisting law enforcement. This is after Penick was arrested for allegedly murdering Samantha Jerrell and their son Colton and burying them in a shallow grave at Bear Run Mine. Court records state that Penick confessed to the murders.
“I just put my hands around her neck and wouldn’t let go and buried them in the same grave,” he said, according to court documents.
Penick is also currently awaiting trial for previous charges in Harrison County of possession of marijuana, and six counts of sexual misconduct with a minor after allegedly having a relationship with a 15-year-old girl.
