TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The building that features the PINK of Terre Haute wings mural at 12 points is going to be demolished.
This wings mural has been the site for cancer survivors and those currently fighting cancer.
This mural also hosts the event Going Topless for PINK, where the group Jeep Junkies come out and support breast cancer awareness.
Schelia Romanelly, chairperson of the clean-up committee in 12 points, said this has been dear to her heart due to losing her mother to cancer. Romanelly also said they’ve had survivors from all over stand in front of the mural to tell their story.
“This mural has tremendously impacted the community. It’s just like a staple, you know, permanent attachment here. You know, it’s brought people from all over different states,” said Romanelly.
This mural inspires and unites people. Mike Latta, member of the Jeep Junkies, said the wings are a symbol of empowerment.
“It ties of the community together. Our Jeep Junkies love it, the breast cancer survivors, it means a lot to them and it’s really cool that it’s here in twelve points and we can make this a stop and be a part of this. It’s a sad day, but we’re hoping that it’s not the end,” said Latta.
Romanelly and Latta says they plan on finding another building in twelve points that is big enough to allow jeeps to pull in front and take pictures. Romanelly says 12 points is growing and even though the pink wings mural is leaving, there are other murals to check out in the neighborhood.
