GREENE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — After a devastating EF-2 tornado hit Greene County in May, the Greene County Long-Term Recovery Group is looking for volunteers to join their Steering Committee or one of their subcommittees.
The Greene County Long-Term Recovery Group (LTRG) is being formed to coordinate and support efforts across housing, health, emotional care, volunteer engagement and more. The group says this team is essential to ensuring recovery is organized, transparent and equitable for all residents.
The group will include a Steering Committee and eight subcommittees.
The Steering Committee will provide high-level leadership, ensure accountability, coordinate cross-sector efforts and represent multiple interests across Greene County. The committee will meet at least twice a month, guide and support the work of all subcommittees and actively seek additional members to build a well-rounded and representative team. They will also help oversee funding, resource allocation and case coordination.
The eight subcommittees include:
- Construction Subcommittee – Manage rebuilding, contractor coordination, and housing quality assessments
- Volunteer Subcommittee – Recruit, manage, and support volunteers across all tasks
- Communications Subcommittee – Develop public info, press releases, and outreach (Greene County General Hospital may assist)
- Non-Monetary Donation Subcommittee – Coordinate collection and fair distribution of donated goods
- Emotional/Spiritual Care Subcommittee – Provide trauma-informed and compassionate support services
- Financial Controls/Reporting Subcommittee – Oversee transparency, budgeting, and expense tracking
- Funding (Fundraising) Subcommittee – Pursue grants, organize fundraisers, and manage donor engagement
- Disaster Case Management Subcommittee – Assist individuals/families with ongoing recovery needs and resources
Michael Ellis has temporarily accepted the Chairperson position for the Steering Committee, but they need more people who can devote their time and effort to the Steering Committee or one of the subcommittees.
If you are interested in serving, you can attend the group’s July 8 meeting at the Greene County Foundation. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m.
If you are interested in serving but cannot make the July 8 meeting, you can email Michelle Ellis at Michelle@waglereducation.com.
