CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has announced chip seal operations that will impact State Road 42 in Clay and Owen Counties, beginning on or after Monday, July 7.
The chip seal work will begin on State Road 42 in Poland, Clay County, at Bowling Green Poland Road and will finish at the intersection of State Road 42 and State Road 243 in Cunot, Owen County.
During the operations, INDOT said existing pavement is coated with liquid asphalt, which seals cracks in the road and provides waterproof protection. Once the seal is complete, loose aggregate is applied and swept away. After the completion of the chip seal operations, crews will begin fog seal operations, which will last approximately 2 days, weather permitting.
INDOT said this chip sealing can extend the life of the roadway by 3-5 years.

Work will be completed under lane closures with flagging or a full closure to prevent damage to cars and the roadway. Crews will place message boards at the end of the project to alert the traveling public. INDOT suggests finding alternative routes during the duration of the chip sealing operation.
